A Time for Prayer and Support

I’m fairly certain I haven’t used the same photo twice in all the posts I’ve made since I started my weekly blog in May 2019. This week is going to be an exception.
For several years, the Richards family (my siblings and all of our children and grandchildren) held our annual family reunion alternately between my sister’s house on the coast of North Carolina, and a house owned by my sister-in-law’s brother in Chimney Rock.
This rock bench sat on the side of Hwy 64 facing the Rocky Broad River in Chimney Rock. Just across the river stood the house our family enjoyed as we made memories that will last a lifetime. We often walked from the house, crossing the river on a wooden bridge that took us out to Hwy 64. We walked along the river to Chimney Rock and sometimes on to Lake Lure.

I don’t know if the bench is still there. I’ve heard through family members that the house is still standing; however, we are not sure of the damage. The bridge is gone. As we know by now, most everything else along the river is gone.
This week’s post is one to ask us all to pray for and help the many families who lost so much, from belongings to lives. There are really no words sufficient beyond that.
I’m sure there are many applicable verses to what has happened and what continues to happen, but for today, I’ll share one with the hope that God will grant the strength some need to continue.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, NIV)
In the middle of the worst, God loves us. It is a time to show God’s love to others through prayer and support. I’ll leave it to you, based on your ability, to find the right way to help, but regardless of our physical or financial abilities, we can pray. We can pray for those in need and for people to meet those needs.
I know there are many organizations doing great work in providing relief. However, if you need a recommendation on where to go, Baptists on Mission[1] and Samaritan’s Purse[2] are two great options.
May God provide all we need in this time of prayer and support.

Thank you, Tim, for this reminder to pray for our neighbors who have lost so much. We, along with many friends in Swansboro, are sending truck loads of supplies to those in Western North Carolina. We continue to pray for those grieving from loss of life and/or their home and business.
Thank you, Gayle, for sharing that help is coming from the far end of the state where hurricane impacts are more often felt. I appreciate you so much.
It is all so sad and devastating. No one could have ever imagined a hurricane coming that far in. It makes me so glad to have God to cling to and to know He hears and answers prayers. He is our only hope in this world. At our Bible Study this week they encouraged us to share the gospel whenever we can because more people are open and searching right now than ever before.
