Happy Thanksgiving!

November 27, 2024

We’re just about ready to turn the corner from the Thanksgiving Season to Christmas at our house. We’ll put away the fall colors and hang the garland and lights.

But before we do, we want to fully appreciate this season of thankfulness.

We try not to take all that we enjoy for granted. Though I know we do at times. We tend to assume it will all be here tomorrow.

But we know life is fleeting. We live in a sin-stained world where everything around us is not as God intended. We’d like for it to be. In fact, we often paint a picture of a perfect life to the outside world when our lives are far from it.

I’m not complaining about our life. That’s just the way it is. There are really good things and there are really difficult things. It’s that way for all of us.

When we’re agonizing over a difficult decision that seems to have no right answer, it’s hard to remember to be thankful. Or when we feel attacked, often for what appears to be no good reason, it’s hard to remember to be thankful. And when we experience the straw that broke the camel’s back, it’s hard to be thankful.

But here’s hope.

When we’re aligned with God’s will, then we are right where He wants us to be. He sees what is going on in our lives. He hears the conversations. He knows how we got there and how things will turn out. He supports us when we are in His will.

And here’s one thing we can do to be in His will.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NIV)

I pray you will spend some time in thankfulness for all that is going on in your life. That you will rejoice in it, pray continually, and find a way to give thanks in all circumstances. You may not be able to do it on your own, but the Holy Spirit will help you.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

  2. Your post reminds me that pushing through the hard times and getting to the other side brings thankfulness. So that’s why we have to, “give thanks in all circumstances.” Great post, Tim. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your family.
