Being the Same, No Matter What…

When I saw this image pop up as the next in line for my blog, I immediately thought about one whole making many parts. Then I asked God what that message should look like. I always want to provide His hope for my readers.

It took a while. As I scoured the Scriptures, my need to represent God no matter where I found myself kept surfacing.

Funny how I often start preparing a post with the intent of sharing something I believe God would want you to hear and end up sharing what God tells me I need to hear. That’s exactly what happened this time.

Was I the same standing in front of a Discipleship class on Sunday morning as I was trying to get my old mower to crank on a Saturday afternoon? Did I speak with the same tone to my wife when we disagreed as I did to a good friend who offered to help me with a job? Do the same kind of thoughts run through my mind when a driver cuts me off as when a server provides extra special service?

I realize those situations are all different and naturally I would be acting, saying, and thinking different thoughts, but am I representing God the same way?

Here’s what Peter says in 1 Peter 4.

“Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking actual words of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 4:11, NASB)

I don’t always act, speak, or think the way I should.

But there’s hope for me and I know for you, too, if you find yourself in a similar situation. Peter tells us that our speaking and serving should be for one reason—to glorify God. Easier said, than done, wouldn’t you say?

On our own, and under our own power, that’s true. However, we have a much better chance if we live by the strength which God provides.

As we begin 2022 in a few days, I pray each of us will spend time with God so that we are living in His strength and that we are acting, talking, and thinking in a way that glorifies Him, no matter what.

Today’s feature photo comes from a “photo-a-day” challenge I pursued several years ago. The photo inspires the topic. For me, the posts challenge my creativity, writing discipline, and dependence on God for His message. My prayer is that you find hope in God’s Word, and that you’ll share your hope with others.

  1. Thanks for the reminder. So grateful I am God’s “work in progress” – and He is faithful to complete all He has planned.

    1. Thank you for reading and commenting. You are indeed a “work in progress” and your work is paying off.

  2. Thanks for a great reminder… it’s God’s strength and not our own. Like a baby with a parent, sometimes I think I am doing something and then I’m like— Oh, I couldn’t have handled that the way I did, or say that, or write that— by myself… it was all God. Your post shows us exactly what we should do for 2022… dig deeper to strengthen our relationship with God so we are more apt to do things right.

    1. Thank you Teresa. I hope you get this response. The picture is a french fry cutter. When it came up in my image que, I thought of how the fries that come from this cutter are always the same–every time. I want to be that way!
