I’m Thankful God Does Not Change.

When I saw the kite flying along the beach I thought, “Man, they sure don’t make kites like they used to.”

Readers of my posts are all ages, but I’d say most are around my age, give or take ten years. I don’t mind sharing, I’m 65. So, most of you probably remember the kites of our youth.

Now, I know not all kites were created equally even in the late -60s and early -70s. There were specialized kites made out of durable material, able to withstand strong winds and the abuse kids our age gave them. But the kites I remember the most were what you may call the typical kite shape (also known as an orthodiagonal quadrilateral), made out of paper, with a wooden frame. While they were fun to fly, they didn’t seem to last very long, at least at my house.

Having that history, I was just amazed at the dragon kite flying along the beach. It seemed to fly so effortlessly and the gentleman flying it did it with such skill. He brought the kite down from way up in the air right to his hand almost like the kite had engines operating it. He didn’t experience any of the bobbing, weaving, and diving like my kites seemed to want to do, before eventually crashing headfirst into the ground.

The change in kites from my days as a child to now makes me think about how God does not change. There’s a reason kites have changed over the years. We’ve learned what makes them easier to operate and what makes them more durable. Easier operation and better durability equal more hours of fun.

But God doesn’t have to improve. He has been perfect since before time and will be perfect for eternity future.

The Bible tells us,

“This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.” (Psalm 18:30, ESV)

In addition to that, we read,

“I the Lord do not change…” (Malachi 3:6, NIV)

Those attributes of God should bring us hope. We can have a relationship with a God who is perfect and never changes.

While it’s neat that kites have changed over the years, it’s comforting that God has not.
