Life Lessons: Two of Ten – My Wife is My Greatest Earthly Treasure
March 5, 2025
When we think about treasures, most people imagine physical things – collections of coins, baseball cards, or maybe expensive items like cars and houses. But the most valuable treasures aren’t things at all, they’re people. For me, my greatest treasure is my wife, Sarah.
What does it mean to call someone a treasure? Simply put, it means they are someone we deeply value and prize above other things. When I say Sarah is my treasure, I mean she is essential to my life in ways that go far beyond material worth.
Some people say “I couldn’t live without them” when talking about their spouse. While I understand the sentiment, I want to be honest. Yes, I could physically survive without Sarah. But life would be immeasurably harder and emptier without her presence. She makes every aspect of my life better, richer, and more meaningful.

Let me share specifically how Sarah enriches my life. She…
- Consistently puts my needs before her own
- Offers fresh perspectives that complement my way of thinking
- Provides constant encouragement in everything I do
- Loves me unconditionally, despite my flaws
- Brings happiness and joy to my daily life
- Faithfully prays for me every day
The Bible has much to say about treasures and what we should value most. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus teaches:
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
This passage warns against becoming too attached to earthly possessions that can be lost or destroyed. But it goes deeper than that. It’s about where we place our ultimate hope and security. While this teaching primarily addresses material wealth, it prompts us to examine all our attachments, even to people we love.
Romans 8:28 provides another crucial perspective:
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
This verse isn’t promising that everything will be easy or pleasant, but rather that God uses all circumstances, including marriage, to shape us and draw us closer to Him. The “good” mentioned here isn’t about temporary happiness, prosperity, or health, but about our eternal relationship with God.
Looking at marriage through this biblical lens, I understand that Sarah is both an earthly blessing and a spiritual gift. She’s not just someone who makes my life more enjoyable (though she certainly does that). She’s a partner in faith, someone who helps me grow closer to God and become more like Christ.
Proverbs 31:10 asks,
“An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.”
This beautifully captures how I feel about Sarah – she is indeed more valuable than any material treasure.
I believe God placed her in my life not just for my happiness here on earth, but as part of His greater purpose for my eternal good and His glory. Our marriage isn’t just about our relationship with each other, it’s meant to reflect Christ’s love for His church and draw both of us closer to God.
Amen. The treasure of a spouse is even more poignant when you’re both dealing with health issues!
Oh yes, Joy. We know from experience. Continued prayers for you.
Wonderful post, Tim. You and Sarah are definitely a great team in your marriage and in your Christian walk.
Thank you so much Gayle. We have great mentors like you and Travis.
My feelings as I read this post were bittersweet. I loved reading about why Sarah is your treasure (that was the sweet part) but I cannot even come close to understanding/relating to that because I have never experienced anything close to what you wrote about (that was the bitter part). Only God knows why I never was chosen by another a man to experience that kind of love. Thank you for sharing your treasured relationship with your wife Sarah.
Thank you, Teresa. I understand what you are saying. You are such a blessing and encourager. Thank you.
What a great example of true Biblical marriage. It is so encouraging to see happy, strong, spiritual marriages in this day and age. And Sarah is also a perfect example of Titus 2:4-5. Ya’ll are a blessing to me☺️
Thank you, Jane. You are a great example. Great Scripture reference.
Great post, Tim. I’m so thankful for my friends who have loving spouses to help them. And I hope we all have friends we value and who help us and support us. I appreciate your friendship and support.
Thank you, Joni. I agree. Our friends are so valuable. And thank you, too.
