Peace—More Than a Word.

June 5, 2024

My wife and I were on our way home from running errands one day and she asked if we could drive for a few minutes. She wanted to show me something.

We headed away from town a few miles and when I saw it I knew exactly what she was talking about.

Now, for those of you who’ve worked these types of fields, the photo may not be that impressive, but for me, the end result is pure art. It’s not just one thing either. It’s everything combined that causes the scene to give me a sense of peace.

The expanse, uniformity of the bales, number of bales, lines in the grass—all contribute to the effect. Even the seemingly randomness of the bale placement adds to the composition.

The Old Testament has many prophecies about Jesus. One of the ones I love reading is in Isaiah.

“And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6, NASB)

There are many other attributes throughout the Bible, but this verse is one of my favorites. When I read it, I get a sense of peace. Just look at the description and imagine the impact Jesus has on us through His being each one.

A Wonderful Counselor who provides just what we need just at the right time. Hope, joy, comfort, and wisdom provided in only the way He can provide.

A Mighty God who is more powerful than anything that can be against us. No matter what we face, He is stronger.

An Eternal Father who knit us in our mother’s womb. He knew us before we existed. He knows us now and will be with us eternally.

The Prince of Peace in our lives. In a world where there is so much turmoil everywhere we turn, the one place we can experience true peace is in Jesus.

Just like the freshly-baled hayfield, it’s not just one thing—it’s everything. All of these attributes contribute to a sense of peace in Christ. May you know peace every day.
