We Are Made to Glorify God.

Today’s photo is of the Thomas Hill Standpipe in Bangor, Maine. This beautiful building houses a water storage system that holds 1.5 million gallons of water used to regulate water pressure and provide water for fire-fighting for the town.
When I saw this structure, I immediately thought it a perfect fit for a town in Maine. I know there are many different ways to dress up a standpipe or water tower, but in my opinion, the town of Bangor did a great job with theirs.
I found it amazing that the standpipe, constructed in 1897, was open to the public unattended for many years. Apparently, you could climb to the top and take in the stunning countryside on seats provided for guests. I think that would have been so neat to do. (You can read more about this historic standpipe here.)
Try to imagine how it would have been back in the early 1900’s. Imagine sitting along the perimeter of the majestic building, your elbows on the railing, watching the world go by on a pleasant New England afternoon. You can see for miles. The air is crisp. Leaves are changing their colors. You are at peace.
Now, if you are a believer, think about your relationship with God. He holds you in His hands. He provides all that you need (not necessarily all you want). He has placed you in the role of caretaker for the rest of His creation, to enjoy the many blessings that come from knowing Him.
Like the standpipe in Bangor, there are many benefits to having been created by God and given the opportunity to have a relationship with Him. There are so many it would take pages and pages to talk about them.
However, also like the standpipe, whose primary role is to provide water pressure and fire-fighting water, we are meant for one thing—to glorify God.
“Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made.” (Isaiah 43:7, NASB)
God formed us. He made us. We are called by His name.
For His glory.
We Are Made to Glorify God. #hope #joy #writingcommunity Share on XPaul reminds us of this in 1 Corinthians.
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
The next time we have the chance to take in all that God has done for us, may we also take the time to honor Him and praise Him in all that we do.
Thanks for the post, Tim. When so many things in life can distract, it’s a good reminder that God created me to serve Him, and thank Him for everything.
Thank you, Joni.
You are so right! That building is beautiful. I always find it amazing how well they constructed buildings so long ago and the beauty they put into it. Thank you for the reminder of God’s creation and what we are created to do — to glorify Him.
Thanks so much, Jane.
