Thankful.

March 1, 2023

Today I am thankful.

Not that I am not often thankful, but as I sat to write this week’s post, my thoughts made their way pretty quickly to thankfulness.

Sarah and I have had a busy weekend. Lots of preparations for several events at church. When we have hectic, eventful times like this, especially where we feel we have a responsibility to others, we often pray for God’s guidance, help, comfort, and peace.

We also try to remember after the events to thank God for providing all those things we asked for. Now, it’s not unusual for something to go wrong, or for our plans to get changed, but we know that God is in control at all times, and He will use our efforts for His glory.

Sunday, after our last event, we said our last goodbyes and as we were settling into the car to leave, Sarah took the lead as she most often does. “Before we leave, let’s thank God for all He did today.”

It’s with that memory, I want to share this verse.

“I will give thanks to You, Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forever.” (Psalm 86:12, NASB)

Do you have a thought on thankfulness, or a Scripture or story you’d like to share? I’d love to hear them.

  1. So many times lately I’ve thanked God for his generosity with things I didn’t even think to ask for! Today I learned that my newest book was the best seller for our indie bookstore last month. A man found the first one in a hotel library, ordered all three, and sent me a note about it. Another man sent a glowing note after he’d read the WWII book (the first one) and gave me permission to publish it. Even before I published the first one, I asked God to be on the journey with me, that I felt “in over my head.” I still feel that way, but feedback has been beyond anything I could imagine. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

    1. Wow, Joy! I don’t know how I missed your comment. You have so much to be thankful for. Those are really awesome turns for you. Thanks for acknowledging Him!

  2. I love that Sarah wanted to thank God for “all He did today”. I truly think we could put that into to practice at the end of each day. I had never thought of that before, but thanks to Sarah, I’m going to do my best to put that into practice each night before I go to sleep:)

    1. Thank you, Jane. She’ll appreciate your kind words. She tries to say she doesn’t do that, but she is consistent in it, for sure.

  3. I too forget to thank God sometimes. I am trying to create a new practice of thanking God before things take place. It takes practice to create that new habit.
